About LeanSentry
LeanSentry is a monitoring and diagnostics service for IIS and ASP.NET applications on Windows servers. It detects hangs, high CPU usage, memory leaks, crashes, slow requests, lock contention and errors, then runs short deeper diagnostics to identify the root cause down to the application code, such as thread pool exhaustion or a specific hot path.
Instead of attaching profilers or injecting agents like a typical APM tool, LeanSentry monitors externally using IIS log files, performance counters, WMI and ETW tracing. It collects non-sensitive data and does not access application memory, data or code. It can be deployed in minutes without an IIS reset, runs alongside other APMs, and supports dedicated servers, Azure cloud services and Amazon EC2, including Classic ASP apps. Diagnostics are viewed on an online dashboard, or teams can host the full stack themselves with LeanSentry OnPremise.
The product was founded by Mike Volodarsky, who worked on IIS 7.0 and ASP.NET 2.0 at Microsoft. It is used by operations staff and developers to track application health, get request traces, receive alerts and tune CPU and memory usage.
